Grafton Sustainability Study

Information, updates, documents, and timelines related to the Athens Grafton School District’s review of the long-term sustainability of the Grafton Elementary School program

Overview

The Athens Grafton School District Board has begun a structured review of the long-term sustainability of the Grafton Elementary School program.

The Board has contracted with DY Consulting LLC to support this process. The study is intended to help the Board and community better understand the financial, operational, enrollment, staffing, transportation, and programmatic factors connected to the current elementary school model and possible future options.

The purpose of this study is not to predetermine an outcome. The purpose is to gather information, review possible scenarios, include community input, and support a thoughtful and informed decision-making process.

The core study began in May 2026 and is expected to conclude by September 30, 2026. The scope includes baseline analysis, scenario development, stakeholder engagement, and a final report with recommendations.

Current Status

As of the May 28, 2026 update memo, the consultant is reviewing information related to enrollment history and projections, staffing, the school budget, transportation, tuition, and facilities. The consultant is also beginning conversations with school, supervisory union, and community stakeholders.

A site visit to Grafton Elementary School is scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026. July is currently identified as the target timeframe for broader community forums, joint Select Board and School Board conversations, and other public engagement opportunities.
