Videos and Captions
Videos are a common way to share information with staff and families. This includes recorded presentations, public meetings, classroom or school videos, and short clips shared on websites or social media. Any video with spoken audio should include captions. If you use automatic captions, you must review and correct them before sharing.
Video and caption tips
- Start with a brief introduction so viewers know what the video is about.
- Edit out unnecessary chatter, dead time, or side conversations.
- Use a good microphone (clear audio makes captions more accurate).
- Add captions after recording. If your platform generates captions automatically, use them as a starting point—then edit for accuracy.
- Provide a transcript when possible (especially for longer videos or meetings).
- Plan time for captions. As a guideline, captioning and reviewing can take 2–3x the length of the video.
