Join the WNESU Council on Intentional Tech

If the term “artificial intelligence” challenges you, sparks excitement, provokes confusion, or brings up a mix of reactions, Windham Northeast Supervisory Union invites you to apply to join its Council on Intentional Tech.

The council’s first charge will be to help WNESU thoughtfully navigate artificial intelligence. Its work may later expand to other important technology questions, such as screen time and intentional device use or the purpose and support of digital learning tools.

The goal is not to promote AI or require everyone to agree. The council will bring together people with different experiences and perspectives to identify what members of the WNESU community should know, understand, and be able to do regarding AI.

Applications date EXTENDED >> Applications are due Friday, September 25, 2026.

Who We Are Looking For

We anticipate selecting approximately 15-20 participants representing a broad range of roles, schools, experiences, and perspectives.

We welcome applications from:

  • High school students, with a goal of including 2-3 students

  • Parents and caregivers

  • Elementary, middle, and high school teachers across varied content areas

  • Student support and instructional staff, including paraprofessionals, counselors, instructional coaches, and library media specialists

  • Technology, finance/business, and other operational staff

  • School and SU administrators

  • School board members

  • Community partners with relevant professional or community experience

Participants do not need to be AI or technology experts. Enthusiasm, caution, concern, and all levels of experience are welcome.

The Council’s First Charge: Artificial Intelligence

Over seven sessions, participants will examine real-world scenarios, review relevant resources, policies, and guidance, and collaborate on three key deliverables for WNESU leadership.

A Shared Framework of WNESU AI Understandings

A baseline document identifying the essential AI concepts, opportunities, and risks that members of the WNESU community should understand. The framework may address privacy, bias, academic integrity, accessibility, and responsible use across teaching, learning, and district operations.

Draft Principles and Considerations for AI Use

Proposed principles, practical considerations, and draft guidance for students and employees using or considering AI tools. The document will center teaching and learning, including the practices our community wants to foster and the learning experiences it wants to protect, while also addressing administrative and operational uses.

A Strategic Report and Recommendations for WNESU Leadership

A report capturing the council’s findings, lingering questions, and recommended next steps for policy and guidance, operational support, professional learning, and continued community engagement.

The council’s work will inform future WNESU decisions. Any resulting policy or formal guidance will proceed through the appropriate leadership and approval processes.

Member Role and Expectations

For this initial AI-focused work, participants will be expected to:

  • Attend seven in-person sessions of approximately 90 minutes each

  • Complete short assignments between sessions

  • Participate openly, respectfully, and critically in discussions and collaborative work

  • Help develop and refine the council’s final deliverables and recommendations

Proposed Session Topics

The seven sessions are tentatively expected to focus on:

  1. Council launch, scheduling, and AI fundamentals

  2. Safe and responsible AI use and academic integrity

  3. AI in classroom practice

  4. AI in the learning process

  5. AI in school and district operations

  6. Reviewing and stress-testing the council’s emerging findings
