Dear Families,
Although it is just March, (and I woke up to snow,) I cannot help but feel excited that spring is just around the corner. It is not just the calendar, the changeable weather, the more hours of light and the occasional scent of skunk that give me spring fever, it is the children. They are growing and changing before my eyes, they are able to do things they couldn’t just a few months ago. It is so gratifying working with this age because they learn so much so quickly.
Another sure sign of spring is that parents of the older children are starting to ask about Kindergarten. The Early Childhood Outreach Coordinator for each district has our class list and will be contacting you about Kindergarten registration in early May for Rockingham and early June for Westminster. Annie (for Westminster) and Tracy (for Rockingham) will also be hosting playgroups, “teddy bear teas” and other events for incoming Kindergartners.
We are wrapping up our study of “things that go” As the children learned about cars, trucks, trains and planes they practiced a lot of important skills. The children counted wheels and lights, sorted vehicles, and talked about the specialized nature of tools and vehicles that people use to do different jobs. We took the opportunity for children to look at a lot of real vehicles-, a backhoe, a garbage truck, a road sander- and thanks to class parents- dump trucks.
A HUGE thank you to Eric Clark (Ella’s dad) and John Cravinho (Jack’s dad) who brought their dump trucks to the preschool for the children to look at, sit in, and learn about.
We are finishing up our box vehicles (Thanks for all the donations!) and then we will begin to look at the ocean and its creatures.
ODDS AND ENDS
The parent volunteer calendar is on the bulletin board, please sign up for some time in the classroom.
We are closed for spring break the week of April 20th.
There is no school on Monday May 4th and Tuesday May 5th for preschool screenings. (If you have friends or relatives interested in preschool for next year, they should contact us ASAP.) (If you have friends or relatives interested in preschool for the year after, we’d love to hear from them, too.)
Thanks for all you do,
Jennifer
