Dear Families,
Just a quick note to update you on the weeks ahead…
No school next week Thurs 10/23 and Fri 10/24.
Several families have asked about Halloween at the preschool. We tend to take a very low-key approach to the holidays. The wider world has so much hype around Halloween that  I find it is best to not make a huge production out of it. As Halloween nears, children will want to talk about it. (As a matter of fact, with the stores decorated, they have been talking about it for weeks.) We will keep it very concrete, what costumes children are wearing, what they
are doing with their families, etc. The week of Halloween we will sing Halloween songs, read Halloween stories, and do a special craft project.
We always keep in mind that many young children are scared by aspects of Halloween.
It is not a coincidence that we chose October 30th and 31st as our “Pajama Days.” We got the idea from Weathersfield Elementary School; it is a way to make the day fun and special without the scariness and costumed frenzy that is often present all day long on Halloween.
Please sign up for a parent conference on the bulletin board in the classroom. I am available to meet with you either at the school or at your home, although families new to the school should try to sign up for a home visit. Our conference should take about 30 minutes. I tried to schedule a range of times to accommodate everyone’s needs. Please let me know if we need to make different arrangements.
